A FILM BY UNCLE is the collective name of collaborators Max Tobin (writer, actor, director) and Dillon Steele (writer, DoP, director) who have worked together since 2021 on a range of projects.

The pair first created the online brand ‘Ministry Of’ — originally a commission from ByteDance/TikTok. This series: a combination of educational content, absurd journalism and dry comedy, amassed over 500,000 followers before being commissioned further by Snapchat and winning 2021’s Royal Television Society award for digital creativity. The brand also produced content for the NHS during the pandemic.

Following this, Dillon and Max produced series for BBC GLOBAL and BBC EarthScience, which earned nominations at the 2022 Edinburgh TV Festival’s ‘New Voice Awards’ and 2023 Broadcast Digital Awards respectively.

Along with this, their commercial clients have included Nike, Meta, Vodafone, FIFA and Gillette.

A FILM BY UNCLE currently have long-form projects in development with A24 and Camden Productions (fronted by ‘This Country’ producer Simon Mayhew Archer).
